We are giving away over $5,000 of cinema gear: ĭIYP’s coverage of IBC2019 is sponsored by Syrp, Manfrotto, Zhiyun, and Spiffy Gear. There’s no word on when you can get your hands on the white ones yet. At the moment, only black versions of the gimbals appear to be available to order. The Moza AirCross 2 is available to buy now as a base package for $429 or you can pre-order the Professional Kit for $499, which also includes a quick release plate, phone holder and Moza iFocus M mechanical follow focus unit. It does come with a little tripod if you want to extend the handle for heavier rigs, but if you’re regularly using heavier camera rigs, you might want to consider something a little larger with more wiggle room for balancing, like the Moza Air 2, Zhiyun Crane 2 or Zhiyun Crane 3 LAB. This small size allows you to keep your hand a little closer to the camera, which combined with the low weight of the gimbal itself means you can easily hold it with just a single hand. It’s not quite as small as the Zhiyun Weebill LAB (although it’s lighter!) but it’s smaller than the Zhiyun Crane 2, which offers the same 3.2kg load capacity. The Moza AirCross 2 is a pretty small gimbal, weighing in at a mere 950g. A heavier load might not always be suitable for use on the AirCross 2 if you can’t balance it well. While it can handle a pretty decent load, as with other gimbals, you still need to be concerned with balance. In the case of the AirCross 2, those benefits are a 3.2kg load capacity and having the ability to mount the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K (or BMPCC 6K) horizontally or vertically without any kind of cage or 3rd party adapter plates. But once BRAW comes out for the P4K, the bitrates are not ludicrous, recording to an SD card would not be out of the question. Looks like it's going to be a one or the other in that respect. And while they all largely do the same thing – keep your camera level and steady while you walk around handholding it – each has its own unique benefits over the others out there. The Air 2 also apparently can control the P4K through cam control BUT, if you are recording to SSD the USB is occupied. 3-axis gimbals have really taken off in the last few years, and we’ve seen a lot of really good ones from a number of now-familiar companies.
